Target Iran? MOP Bomb Fast-tracked

WASHINGTON -- A U.S. Defense Department request to speed up a "bunker-buster" bomb may hint at a possible attack on Iranian nuclear plants.

The Pentagon first asked Congress for $88 million in 2007 for development of what was called the Massive Ordnance Penetrator, or MOP. But ABC News reported Tuesday that a recent "repositioning" request to the House and Senate Appropriations and Armed Services committees asked for $19.1 million for procurement of four bombs, $23.8 million for speeded up development and testing and $21 million to acceler

An interesting and possible ominous development for the present saber rattling going on between Washington, Tel Aviv, and Tehran as the military rushes the completion and testing of this 30,000 pound bunker busting bomb.

Is it merely a coercive step aimed at keeping Tehran focused on the bargaining table or is it a genuine precursor to the United States bombing Iran’s developing nuclear facilities?

So far Obama’s campaign promise to ‘talk with’ America’s enemies as been primarily ‘talking at’ America’s enemies, and if he has a genuine peaceful strategy involved with how his foreign policy is being shaped with Iran its hard to discern it.

It’s equally hard to discern whether it’s the Israelis and Zionist Neoconservatives pushing the Administration on Iran or whether it’s the Administration pushing the Israelis and Zionist Neoconservatives behind the scenes to create a pretext that involves enough ‘chatter’ to sell another war with an Islamic nation in the vital oil producing part of the world.

War without end, is probably not the best way to run a world folks.

"The department has an Urgent Operational Need for the capability to strike hard and deeply buried targets in high threat environments," the request said, saying it had been approved by Central and Pacific commands. "The MOP is the weapon of choice to meet the requirements of the UON."

Hopefully this is just part of the coercive saber rattling designed to force Iranian concessions regarding their nuclear program. Advertising such a project and its urgent nature is not exactly conducive to the element of surprise most tacticians prefer in warfare. Telegraphing a strategy is a sure fired way to encourage and enable your enemies to harden and prepare their defenses for it.

Ultimately does this kind of gunboat diplomacy though end up putting our military forces in greater danger should actual military action be required because it does tend to encourage and lead to enemies hardening their defenses and potentially making any attack far more costly in the way of human life and equipment.

I wonder if the Administration considers such things or if some strategy czar simply keeps formulating policy for an unquestioning and crises immersed President who could do with a few less pokers in fires that wouldn’t be flaming if not for the gasoline being poured on them.

Well it does seem like it follows the plan of "do not allow oil trading in anything but dollars." Look what happened to Iraq when they switched to the Euro.

We get a report of the Arab states covertly talking about trading oil in different currency and then we get this report. It's no coincidence...

The problem is that China, Russia and France may not turn a blind eye this time. We could be headed for full scale war in the Middle East with the Super Powers going directly at it...
