Hi all,
with the last weeks big quakes in Samoa and Indonesia. The Indo-australian plate is looking pretty busy at the moment in regards to activity.
here is a map with all the
quakes from the last week -

Samoa and Tonga in particular is a pretty unstable place to be right now!!
Here is a diagram showing the indo-australian plate (ignore the red dots as they are not recent quakes) -

with so many big quakes happening here just now, it is possible that these could
weaken fault lines across the globe and possibly cause a massive
quake/quakes elsewhere, such as the San Andreas Fault.
A group of seismologists studying the massive 2004 earthquake that triggered killer tsunamis throughout the Indian Ocean found that the quake had
weakened at least a portion of California's famed San Andreas Fault
The finding, detailed in the Oct. 1 issue of the journal Nature, suggests Earth's largest earthquakes can weaken fault zones worldwide and trigger
periods of increased global seismic activity

I think it will be interesting to keep an eye on the seismic activity over the next few weeks especially, and even the next few months. It is
possible, there may be more devastation to come.
