from weedwackers Alaska 261 link

ATC then tried to contact Alaska 261. The crew of a Skywest airliner reported "he's, uh, definitely out of control" [13] Although the CVR captured the co-pilot saying "Mayday", no radio communications were received from the flight crew during the final event

like in AF 447 , they were too busy trying to save the airliner

There's an interesting, if somewhat philosophical and way off-topic, detail about the Captain of Alaska Airlines 261. He had formerly worked for Continental Airlines, and when, after a hostile take-over and Bankruptcy filing the Pilot's Union declared a strike, he left rather than crossing a picket line, and went to work at Alaska.

I say it's philosophical because of the odd way lives are changed -- seems so random.
