Probably not, but it raises an interesting point - swine flu would devastate prison populations ... seeing as they all live in close proximity to each other.

Nevertheless, something to keep an eye on. Nice find.

The prison says visits have been temporarily suspended because of a number of inmates with a "suspected gastrointestinal virus." Prison officials say they don't yet know what's sickened the inmates, but that they don't suspect swine flu.

Sounds more like Rotovirus or E. Coli. They specifically say it doesn't sound like Swine Flu. Still, most visitors do not have contact with the prisoners anyway, and the guards are still free to come and go and move about the community, so how does suspended visitation make any difference???

I believe the child who died in Canada yesterday had specific and profound GI symptoms. They are listed as part of the symptom compex.

You also make a good point that in a prison, E. coli, staph, and any host of infections could travel quickly. Look at the numbers of TB in prisons- tey're breeding grounds for microbes. They are also ripe for viral mutation if this IS H1N1 in the prison- perhaps that's another reason for limiting exposure.
