Why do people say "Seeing is beleiving" ?

I dislike the phrase "Seeing is beleiveing" many non-beleivers use this phrase all the time and it really annoys me.

I can't see the wind, so i don't beleive it.
I can't see oxygen, does oxygen even exist?
I have never seen a atom split.
I have never seen fart wind.

People will say scientists have seen the atom split, but the same thing applies to UFO's.
Scientists have seen the atom split just like people have seen UFO's.

Because the majority don't have controlled enviroments such as lab to conduct experiments to valdiate anything...


So for the average layman, seeing is believing...

i think its the opposite believing is seeing.. we create our own reality
