Crashed UFOs? Probably Not...

Could stories of UFO crashes in the 1940s and 50s in fact be due to Cold War propaganda, psychological warfare and a cover-up of more prosaic military activities? Nick Redfern makes a case for it at UFO Mystic.

...there is good evidence that the collective UFO research community may have been the unwitting victim of a huge con-trick; one designed to (a) hide classified military ops under a crashed UFO banner; and (b) control and manipulate a group of people (namely us) that the official world perceives as being (at times, at least) troublesome and a potential threat to national security.

But what kind of threat did US intelligence groups and military think UFO research groups were? Says Redfern...

The CIA was most concerned about the way in which the Soviets might exploit the UFO subject as a tool of psychological warfare and spread bogus UFO accounts to clog intelligence channels.

In other words, it was not UFOs per se that particularly interested or alarmed the CIA, but the way in which the subject itself could be manipulated for other, more novel purposes.

Redfern ties together rumors of flying saucers at Fort Knox, meetings between hoaxers and the proverbial shadowy government agents, NSA documents that indicate a crashed disk was a plant, and Air Force tests on how radiation affects primates to make his case. And while not comprehensive as compared to the volumes of other research into crashed UFOs, it is still a thought-provoking argument. Though it may be one that is not very popular; no one wants to think they've been played, especially the bordering-on-arrogant UFO research community.

I do think the Cold War and ufology are connected on so many levels.

However maybe the Cold War was a front for UFOs, ever thought of that?

I only heard of a crash recently and heard the MIB came
quickly to the site in New Mexico.

A UFO crash, from a TV series, in PA that was acorn shaped had
officials haul the ship away and the flight origin was Canada.

A similar ship injured a woman in a car in New Mexico.
Bill Lyne's dad had his car stall and headlights burn out.
Also in New Mexico.

Thats two crashed, one injury and one vehicle damage.
All Cold War Era except for the first one that went into a house.

America captured all the UFO technology at the end of WWII.
Getting the plans and destroying what existed.
Only the Foo/Phoo might have been the only UFO type flier
the size of a VW Bug and a tight squeeze for a pilot, navigator,
Hitler and Eva to escape in unless the larger saucer existed.

So perhaps in the last seven days the US got the plans.
Russia got nothing.
So keeping the fledgling technology secret was paramount.

If Tesla technology, it is still guarded above atomic plans as
the vault is closed lest plans get leaked.

I agree with the first statement; much of the early days of the modern UFO era seems to be steeped in Cold War intrigue on one level or another.

That being said, I could not disagree with the second statement more. The seeds for the Cold War were sown well before the modern UFO era started.

Hmmmm ... how so? America and Russia were tight before 1945 ... at least they acted that way because of their shared hatred for Nazi Germany.
