A Dragon cannot love a Dog,
If it wants to hold its fire,
For the Dog will hold her down,
And try with good intentions,
To still that restless desire.

The loyal Dog, my trusting friend,
Endless romance cannot ease my heart,
For your metal substance feels to cold,
And fire-heat of Dragon,
Will gain you no reward.

Far beneath the other,
The Dog will always admire,
And high upon a silver platter,
Where no harm can be done,
The Dragon will mostly inspire.

But should the Dragon fall in pain
The dog will lick the wounds all clean,
Softly nurtures her with care,
Then put her back where she belongs,
And treat her like a Dragon Queen.

A dog will never realize:
How can a Dragon fly with pride?
How can she freely roam the skies?
Explore the path, pursue her dreams,
When her wings are tied?

Lovely poem!
heres one for you from the words of P.J Carroll.....
Dog God
In domesticating the wolf
We have reduced the wild ideal
To grotesque parodies of ourselfs:
And so with our Gods.

Different theme, but all the same, quite true

No offense meant by posting you PJCarrolls poem! His writtings are not to do with Chinese Astrology at all.
I like the Chinese system though, its also good at finding personality traits when intertwined with estern astrology too.
I'm a Metal Pig.

We may well be!
I am not really sure where to start; if you want to fire some questions without being too personal, I'm happy to answer. Then we can make a comparison and find definative proof for the Chinese Astrology ( proof between ourselves of coarse), otherwise there would be plenty of arguement from elsewhere

I feel Astrology gets a bad rap, this is the fault of newspaper hororscopes.
They are chosen in an arbitrary means, and make no sense; or are so general they would appeal to someone somewhere, regardless of when you are born.
The real stuff is when one does an individual chart.
The only thing that bothers me though, is by right, there should be 13 zodiac constellations/signs.
What do you think

why 13?

it's been a long time since I looked into astrology. Back when I wrote the poem it was as a reflection of my own and my husbands signs and a lot of it is symbolic.
We are the two least compatible signs dragon and dog... and cancer/saggitarius. That said, we are going into the 14th year together

Hi gypsK,
why did I say 13?
A: 1) All constellations of the Zodiac lie on an imaginary line, called The Ecliptic. The Ecliptic is the plane of the solar system; so, all palnets and the sun travel on or very close to this line.
2) The correct length of a month should actually be 28 days, following the menstral cycle.
3) As we know it there are 365 days in one year, 24 hrs a day.
Inactuality a day is 23hrs 56min 4 seconds long.
4) If we multiply 28 x 12 = 336. subract 336 from 365, we get 29 days another month.
5) if we take the missing 4 minutes from every day of the year, and multiply that by 365, you get 1459, didvide that by 60 ( to give a hour constant) we get 24.333331. Thats your extra day!
6) here the obvious cracker: The Ecliptic crosses into the constellation of Ophiucus (the serpent bearer)-this is between scorpius and sagittarius. The Ecliptic in Ophiucus is 13 arc minutes in lenght.
So there you have it- thats why there should be 13 constellations. Maybe there was at one time, but the introduction of the roman calender probably modified that.
This is why there is inconsistency when speaking about people whom are born on the cusp of a sign
