The car industry had been passionately campaigning for the scrappage incentive scheme to be introduced amid a 30pc fall in new car sales in the UK.

Some of Britain’s biggest car manufacturers, including Vauxhall, Jaguar Land Rover and Nissan, have cut jobs, pay and production as the financial crisis drives the industry to its knees.

While car scrappage programs have been sucsessful in the past, in the scheme consumers are to be offered £2,000 to scrap their 10-year-old vehicle for a new car or van under proposals unveiled by Alistair Darling in the Budget...

This is an obvious play to trap the people into more debt, and possibly no transportation of thier own!

Even as the used car market is seeing a boom, so the scheme will bring that recovery to a halt.

Scheme I tell you, and a bad one at that!
