I got one for you:
Back in about 1991, I was working for a travel agency which catered to corporate travel. My job was to call and book the hotels for business travelers
(most of them regular clients). So, from the queue comes the record of someone flying into Los Alamos, NM. The requested hotel is Best Western Hilltop
House Hotel, phone # (505) 662-2441
to recreate the short conversation from an old memory:
Los Alamos person answers the phone.
Me: "Hello, I'd like to check availability for a reservation arriving January 23 for two nights, leaving January 25."
Los Alamos: "Uh, excuse me?"
Me: "I'm calling to make a reservation for January 23."
Los Alamos: "Reservation? We don't take reservations."
Me, frustrated (ehwhat?): "I need to book a room for January 23."
Los Alamos: "Ma'am, we don't have any rooms, we're a Pizza Hut."
Me: "Oh, sorry." *Click*
...too bad I didn't think quick enough to ask if they'd deliver to NY!
And the next year on vacation, I drove through Los Alamos with my sister. I just had to get hold of the local Yellow Pages (no Google yet...)
Los Alamos Pizza Hut phone # (505) 662-2411
Helped me not feel so bad.
