hello all,

i am a 29yr old guy, 178cm high (5ft 9inches) and i am small build, weighing 58kgs (which has never changed for ever!! always been between 56-60kgs - runs in the family)

is drinking 6-7 cups of green tea each day too much??

i am being told by a close one that i am in serious danger of quickly becoming underweight and seriously ill, whereas i read everywhere that roughly 6 cups per day is beneficial in many ways!!

PLEASE help me settle this arguement!!! one way or another.

thankyou, G

Well I'm 5'10 and 160 lbs, I have drank nothing other than green tea, close to half a gallon a day. And my weight never changed, so you may want to look into another possibility.

I pee'd a lot, but that's about it. I suspect your intake of meals may be the issue, perhaps tape worms.

Here you go:

Details
* When Lim Mi-suk (25) was studying for the civil service exam, she habitually drank seven cups of cold green tea daily, having heard it was good for dieting and skin, and better than water.
* But after 10 days of the regime, her stomach hurt and her digestion was poor.
* Naturally, says Choe Seong-hee of Dong-eui University's Department of Food and Nutrition.
* That happens if you drink too much of the faddish drink on an empty stomach.
* Eastern medicine specialists advise hot green tea over cold because its "cold" elements already bring down body temperature.
* For people of the "Minor Yin" body type, who get cold easily, it's best not to drink green tea when they experience indigestion after eating cold food.
* In Eastern medicine, different medicines have been used to treat diseases depending on "body type," of which there are four -- Major Yang, Major Yin, Minor Yang and Minor Yin.
* If you drink more than that, the acidic tannin in green tea can irritate an empty stomach, much as orange juice can.
* Because tannin merges with inorganic materials, it can interfere in the absorption of calcium.
* Mothers should avoid mixing green tea into their babies' powdered milk, and pregnant mothers and babies under five months should avoid it because their capacity to discharge caffeine is lower.
* The effects of green tea made from soaked leaves and from powder are different.
* In the case of tea from leaves or tea bags, only the minerals seep out into the water.
* The dietary fiber that eases constipation remains in the leaf itself and does not enter the body, so it has no effect on constipation.
* The caffeine and amino acids stimulate the brain and increase metabolism, so they can lead to weight loss.

So basically I would cut back to 2-3 cups a day and not drink it on an empty stomach.

white tea, honey bush, rooibos, yerba mate teas are part of a healthy lifestyle
anyway, liquids are not a substitute for solid food
look into the Mediterranean diet and modify it to your needs

For some people green tea is a good appetite suppressant, mainly due to the caffeine. If you don't eat, you can lose weight of course. Just pay attention to how your body reacts to the tea. You should be OK. I drink as much as you do, and I weigh less. I don't have weight just falling off of me (I wouldn't complain if I did though).

I'm about the same height, but I weighed myself yesterday and I'm 12 stone/76kg/167 lbs, I thought the thing must be broken!? lol, who knows, because I swear I was like 11 stone last time haha. It must be all those damn cokes I drink! Instead of green tea!

I used to drink green tea a lot, and I don't know how much I weighed then thou. I don't weigh often.

I'm pretty healthy, and I naturally have a well built body, wide shoulders, chest etc.
But I feel I could be healthier, maybe I'm not as fit and toned as I was last year, or maybe I just have more muscle, hmm...so I got a target now, In the next couple of months I'm going to work out a lot, get toned and fit. I wonder how much I will weigh like that? more or less? hmmm.

I can't really help, I'm just making some random talk here haha, but I guess you can test it out, if you do lose weight all you have to do is stop drinking so much, simple really
. If you feel healthy then there is no problem! right?
