Okay people, this is such a huge problem that I feel it could be a conspiracy. Literally millions of internet users are occasionally being redirected away from the site they are browsing to an offsite webpage.

The pages are usually a search results type page like yellow pages with a search filled in that you didn't even search for. Sometimes it is local search results for the city you reside in. I have also heard about being redirected to a porn results webpage. This is affecting more than just ATS sites, it has happened several times while playing poker on pureplay.com, and while browsing other webpages.

This is happening to millions even with the most up to date anti-virus and anti-spyware protecting their computers.

So my question is this...Is there some kind of hush up about a flaw that is so hard to patch that it affecting literally millions of users, and if so, why not at least tell us the truth about it? If it is caused by the flash advertising so prevalent, then it still needs to be addressed and quickly.

If anyone has the solution to the problem please post the answer. So far, all solutions posted have not worked.

Please flag and digg it too so we can get to the bottom of this huge pesky problem.

I don't think it's any kind of conspiracy,it's just a browser hijacking. Which, though sounds like some terrorist attack (and on a very small scale,it is) It's relativly easy to do,and it just abuses some of the computers falabilities.

It's no conspiracy that people who make this kind of malware, are scummy #tards who deserve bad things.

edit to say,if you search for "broswer hijacking" on youtube, you'll see just how easy it is,and how readily available the information is. I won't link to any vids for obvious reasons.

Edit again, just out of interest, what kind of security do you have. If you have anything Norton related, kill it with fire. It's as we Brittish say "a load of old Pony"

Basically to sum it up, its advertising.
Advertising has destroyed the internet.
Its not everyone's fault however.
Genuine site owners put ads on there site, with genuine non malicious intentions.
And then the people who make the ad are changing it and putting malicious things in it.
And of course then there ads get removed but the damage is already done.
You either have a browser hijacker, or you are clicking on ads without realizing it, or from time to time you get a malicious script in an ad which redirects you or other things.

I don't think there's any sort of conspiracy here, it's more just the end result of malware having found it's way onto people's computers.

The recent trend, no matter what "name" they're packaged under, are nearly all just variants of the same core crapware.

Internet Anti Virus Pro 2009
Anti Spyware 2009
Spyware Defender 2009 (?sp)
what have you...

Personally I've found a combination of the following to be quite effective in eliminating nearly each and every variant I've had come across the tech table.

ComboFix
Smitfraudfix
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
Super Antispyware
Ccleaner
* Right-click and Save-as to your root drive ("C:" typically)

To start:
- Reboot to Safe Mode (press and hold F8 upon startup to get to the Boot Menu)
- Login as Administrator
- Turn off any Anti Virus program that may be running in the background.
- Go to "My Computer" and open your root drive ("C:" typically)
- Locate the ComboFix program and open it.
- Run the program (click NO when prompted to install the System Recovery Console)
- Once you've gone through the various stages and are presented with the Report, close out of the program.
- Go to "My Computer" and again open your root drive ("C:")
- Locate Ccleaner and install the program. (remove the check to install Yahoo toolbar if you don't want it)
- Once installed, Open the program.
- Click on "Registry" in the upper left-hand corner.
- Click "Scan for issues" (lower right)
- Once it's finished scanning click "Fix Issues" (bottom right).
- Once that's done click "System Cleaner" in the upper left-hand corner.
- Click "Analyze" ( lower right) ( may take a while)
- When it's finished scanning click "Run Cleaner". (may take a while)
- Once it's done close out of the program.

Now,
- Go to "My Computer" and open your root drive ("C:")
- Open the Program Files folder and locate the folder named after whatever your problem child is. (Anti Spyware '09, etc.) Open it.
- Right-click and delete each and every file therein. Don't worry if it won't allow to delete them all. (access denied and all that...)

Restart your PC.

If you're still receiving the fake alerts and what not presented by these craptastic pieces of work, then restart back into Safe Mode, login as Administrator and run the Smitfraudfix program.

Otherwise just run a full scan with the likes of Spybot S&D and AVG Anti Virus (or whatever you're using).

Run Ccleaner again using both the System Cleaner and Registry tools.

Restart you PC.

If you're still having issues then try running Malwarebytes Anti Malware and/or Super Antispyware, though It's been my experience that the previous programs do the job just fine.

If anyone has any questions or concerns regarding the above processes, please don't hesitate to U2U me. I'll be happy to assist in any way possible.

Hope this helps.

Thanks 12...I will try your recommendations. Yes I know it was proly not a conspiracy, but often when on this site only the subjects framed as such will get noticed and be allowed to post.

Appreciate the time you took to help out. Hopefully all the other people who have recently had this problem will see your suggestions.
