I have a 1956 Chevy bel air, 1957 Chevy bel air, and a 1963 nova. I just want to hear from people that love older car. The 1956 is my weekend warrior. I put a 327 350HP and a pretty big cam. I am think of building my 57 for drag racing. I want a small block in it any ideas. everyone say 383 but i never had one. give me your idea on what you think would be the best. thank you for your time.

IF you want an engine that will wind quickly, build a four bolt main 350.Bore it .030 use the crank out of a 375 horse 327.Use short rods and tall dome top pistons.Use the heads off a 375 horse 327 also.Use a cam according to what your application is.1/8 mile or 1/4 mile racing. This engine will turn better than 8,000 rpm before valve float. One bad a** little engine.

The Bel Air's are heavy. The Nova (Chevy II) is much lighter and would be a much faster ride for drag racing if you want to see how quick you can be.

the 63 nova chevy II is to light. i put a small block 400 (500HP) and i could not hold it on the road. i was thinking the 57 because of the weight.
