Holy Cow!!!!! That is what I call rotation!!!!

I work with centrifuges on a daily basis in the lab and we usually run the anywhere from 1200 to 9000 rpm and that is fast as heck. I cannot imagne what 1,000,000 rpm is like. Here is a direc quote from the article for some perspective.

For a cosmic comparison, really old, collapsed stars can spin just over 60,000 rpm. Such stars are the epitome of the "skater who has pulled her arms in" analogy. Any faster and the stars would fly apart, theory holds. The typical kitchen blender rotates at about half that rate. High-performance car engines typically max out well under 10,000 rpm.

Unbelievable!!!!

I wonder what the tip speed is on the spinning part.

This further begs the question, if it can go lets say 10,000,000 RPM, would we be at a percentage of the speed of light. Would even the speed of light be possible with something along this line.

My Makita drill needs one of those.

I bet I could drill through a joist in no time.
