Homer, I've always wondered why gas companies charge that much for 9/10ths of a gallon. I've thought that was sort of strange.

From what I understand, 9/10 of a cent on gas has far less to do with "psychology" more to do with taxes.
It is the same way cities pay for stadiums and sports complexes. They raise taxes on tourists and hotels in the tenths of percentages...nevermind the immoral implications of taxing people for something they never see the benefits of...but it is a way to pay for things and people not really thinking of it.
If you go into any large ciy in the country, the tax rate on a hotel room is far higher than it is in the supermarket for goods.
Oil companies are there to make money...period.
People seem to think the oil companies have some duty to provide oil...nevermind, they spend billions and billions of dollars to try and find the oil and billions and billions of dollars to bring it to the plants.
Even at $5 a gallon, gas is a bargain...without it, there would be no way for goods to move from one area of the country to another, there would no way for people who commute to work to get to their jobs, there would be no fire trucks...
The psychology involved in the false "Big Oil" cover-up is the marketing tool all compainies use when selling items....since the advent of TV things have been sold .99 dollars.
Maybe there is a "Big Marketing" cover-up too?
