Regardless of what some people think...and what i was thinking a few days ago...was that this election was over and Obama was going to win handily. I don't think this is the case anymore. I'm curious as to what McCain has planned for this debate. He needs to TALK TO THE PEOPLE....and the number one thing i believe he needs to do........Say that he'll go after EVERYONE in congress....weed out all the corruption. People are angry and they want the people in government whom were responsible for the economic crisis to be held accountable. Most importantly they want their country back. He needs to say it with PASSION...and yet with ANGER. He needs to find a good balance with that.

McCain has already seen that the anger or I am a hero card is not working, so he will dig himself into a deeper hole, the other thing wearing on McCain right about now is he is not at all convincing and wallowing around in flip flops has hurt him, the other thing that will not allow such great turnabout is the debate format and the actual questions that are posed by the moderator.

I think it is over for the McCain campaign, they will spend the next few days tamping down the troopergate investigation that was released late on Friday night, you know that anything no matter significant or insignificant has to go through the press wringer at least one or two days, I mean business days, by then we will be on debate day Wednesday then we will be about 2.5 weeks from voting, I say good luck to any and all strategies, because any change in policies or his programs at this late juncture will just add to the perception he never had anything together as a strategy and he should have fired his campaign management at least 2 months ago.

Nobody that I know (who are all Obama supporters) have been ignorant enough to assume the race is over. We have seen what has happened over the last few months and there appears that nobody will be taking any chances any more. It is really up to Obama to keep on doing what his doing and continue to work hard in the campaign, and thats exactly what his been doing.

Obama and his supporters including myself will not be claiming "victory" to anything yet, america is still filled with ignorant gun trodding folk who refuse to vote for the "socialist muslim one" because rush told them so.. This election can tip either way, its a tug of war at the moment and nobody can predict where itd be going.

I think we are hearing most of the talk about "McCains defeat" coming from the right . What I believe, is that america is always compassionate to the one beaten to the ground. Being the one on the lower scale actually works out for the mccain campaign because it does not put as much pressure and they can start claiming the "maverick" word once again because the "evil terrorist loving gay socialist muslim" is powerful and its up for the maverick rangers to fight the odds.... I can see this now... the new mcpalin express slogan...

We dont know whats going to happen in the last debate and we will never know what will happen on that November night coming our way. All we can do is look to the candidates credentials, beliefs, achievements and judgement and judge for ourselves.

Theres an old saying, "dont count your chickens before they hatch", and the rightwingers are trying to work this to their favour.

Tick. Tick. Tick.

The sound of the clock quickly coming to a stop as McCain now finds himself trailing by double-digits according to recent national polls.

Hey..polls are polls...there are tons of them and the national polls don't mean much anyway..it's the electoral votes. That being said...the latest gallup poll does not show a double digit lead. It's down to 7.

I wouldn't underestimate McCain. I'm not going to join in the mudslinging...but he's dug himself out of holes before. There was a time in the primary when he was basically out of it...yet he still managed to get the nomination.

Polls are B.S. until right before the election, when they really count. That is when the credibility of the pollsters are at stake.

Action speaks louder than words. And if you have someone like Brokaw it will be difficult to see that action. As far as Polls, if this was any ordinary election year i would say the forerunner would most likely win. However, I think this will be a lot closer than what most polls suggest. A lot can happen in three weeks. Just have to wait and see.

Now...to get back on topic.....

What do you (ATSer) think McCain should do to help his chances of winning the Presidency in this last debate on Wednesday? Does anyone agree with what i think? If you disagree please state why.

Also....please try to refrain from the usual namecalling junk please. We're all adults lets act like it.

He needs to rebut Obama when Obama states something half true or false. ex when Obama says tax cuts will go to CEO's and McCain says zero. He needs to be firm and show his anger that nothing has been done for economy in the last two years. He needs to stay focus and show America that talking about economy is not helping economy. Every time politicians make speech on economy stock market goes down. Finally, he needs to tell America to consider Obama judgment about who he has hung around with and relate it to the same company Bush gets blamed for hanging around with. Most importantly, he shouldn't let up one bit.

Good points. Another thing i think he needs to do is explain his corporate tax cut. Obama keeps bringing up that he's giving oil companies tax cuts...which he is......but it's a tax cut across the board and it happens to include that. He also needs to state that our businesses are hurting and raising taxes on any business is the last thing we should do. That's just going to make more companies leave the country. What good is a tax cut for the middle class if you don't have a job in the first place?

He needs to show how much he cares for the country....i really want to see some emotion from him. I may be one of the few...but i think he can turn this election around if he can show that he will truly fight for the people.

I think McCain needs to walk on that stage and whip out his birth certificate and say to Obama, "I'll show you mine if you show me yours."
That would shake things up a bit.

Why won't he produce his birth certificate? McCain's citizenship was questioned earlier this year because he was born while his parents were stationed in Panama. He immediately showed proof of his citizenship. Why not Obama? Is he above the law? Why has he blocked his college records? What does he have to hide? If he was not hiding something these things would have been available for public scrutiny long before now. Either he is the most arrogant human being around or he's a fraud. I hope we find out the truth before he gets in that White House.

I highly doubt McCain will go that route..especially with all the controversy going on. I really think that he's just got to identify with us. He's not a great speaker, we know this, and i don't think he has to be. A great speaker does not make a great leader. I believe he has to truly show that he'll do whatever it takes to try and fix the economy and our government. I think he can do it despite what so many on these boards say.

He needs to be himself and quit listening to his campaign advisors and pollsters.

Tell us what he has done and what he plans to do in simple terms and not get sidetracked by nit-picky issues.

Bring up how important character and judgement are in the position of President without going into specifics about Obama.

Get up there and act like a real person, not some slick politician.

If I was McCain I would bring in a chart showing all the years the oil companies were losing money and ask Obama if he was mad about the oil companies not making profits. It is only when companies make profit that they pay taxes. And even with the tax cuts they presently have they are still paying taxes that contribute to government wasteful spending. And when Obama mentions the corporate loopholes I would put him on the spot and tell him to name them to see if he knows what he is talking about. I don't see Obama complaining about WalMart profits.

And then what? He takes out his authentic brith certificate then we're back to square one, righties claiming its fake without anything to really back it up with....

Why won't he produce his birth certificate?

Oh you and the others know full well he has, this is just a matter of keeping the smear alive than it is debating relevant issues to POTUS. Distracting those from real issues within the last weeks of the presidential elections because we're all darn sure the republicans cant argue over real issues. Not after the 8years with em in power.

McCain's citizenship was questioned earlier this year because he was born while his parents were stationed in Panama. He immediately showed proof of his citizenship.

Yes and so did Obama, yet for some reason rightwingers dont believe it...
I wonder why?

Ya know its so darn easy for me to look at mccains birth certificate and say its fake, then fold my arms, get all disgruntled and turn the other way.

Is he above the law?

Above the law for what? The only crys I hear are coming from the right. Why on earth should we take righty seriously over their smears three weeks before election night? This is the same routine from you fellas as was in 2004, 2000, 1992 etc.

Heres another question for you, is Palin above the law?

Why has he blocked his college records?

Oh please enlighten us on this matter.....

What does he have to hide?

Nothing, thats why these twos years his been running nothing has come of these smears you fellas got going on here. Hey heres a question for you, why are rightwingers going on about him "hiding" something? Is this a ginuwine concern of american citizens... or just partisan BS again?

Please...

Uh, actually McCain did the exact same thing Obama is doing in his lawsuit. He filed for a dismissal. And then it was dismissed.

HE MUST BE HIDING SOMETHING

Dismissed

McCain would not say something like this if he didn't have a plan. Whatever plan he has I hope its something big. McCain is at a great disadvantage and has one chance to make up for it.

Than again.... it could backfire like the "Dean Scream".
