Why get so uptight? The question is simply asking you to compare one bit a fictional writing to another piece of fictional writing.

This goes on all the time. Besides, it would a great way to point out the obvious - these two have one thing in common - both are impossible to achieve in the real world!

AmethystWolf- Well at least the public school is allowing your daughter to read high quality science fiction.

'Flowers for Algernon' is a wonderfull book and,religious propaganda notwithstanding,she'll probably take a lot away from Daniel Keye's book.
As for the assignment,perhaps she could equate Algernon's newly found
intellectual consciousness with the value of enlightened,rational free-thinking (and freedom from centuries of superstition and ignorance).
