Apparently, the wrath of nature in the form of hurricanes may become more powerful and is affected by quite a few factors.

news.aol.com...

I thought these statements particularly noteworthy.

Scientists have predicted that as global warming continues to heat up the ocean, hurricanes could become more frequent, more intense or both, and several scientists think that change is already evident.

The piece ends by saying.

While natural cycles can affect hurricane activity from year-to-year or even decade-to-decade, most climate scientists think that global warming will continue to fuel these storms, and accompanied by the increasing coastal population and environmental degradation, lead to the "increasing destructive power of storms," Staudt said.

So not only do we have the effect of global warning, considered by many to be influenced by human activity, but now we also have the encroachment of man-made development. For example, I did not realize one of the facts pointed out in the article that, by 2003, more than half of the U.S. population lived along the coasts of the Gulf and the Southeast. That's a large number of people potentially in harm's way.
