For a country with a hitherto small presence in South Africa, the U.S. Consul General's three-storey bunker in Tokai, Cape Town, trumpets a sea change. **Only the first bit of the above article can be seen, but more info can be found on maps.google.com search for US consulate Cape Town, it is site B on the map.**

I remember reading some articles earlier in the year regarding the link between the US consulate general in Cape Town, South Africa and the underground silvermine facility nearby. I tried to find them again and notice that all such references and links in both Wikipedia and on general google searches bring nothing up. A search for Africom in Wikipedia mentions nothing about it's existance in South Africa, but mentions potential opposition to it being in Africa.

It seems that all references to Echelon and Silvermine are no longer present either. For anyone who doesn't know, Silvermine is supposedly an Apartheid era underground communications bunker capable of withstanding a direct nuclear blast, a stone's throw from the US consulate general's "bunker-like" structure at Westlake, Tokai.

Is someone trying to hide something? If so, what is it?

Cape Town is clearly of high importance to the US due to it being the only route for oil shipments to the US and Europe should war break out in the middle east endangering the Suez Canal. Is Silvermine a high tech surveilance and failsafe command centre? Can anyone shed any light on this?
