From the article
"Former British soldier Simon Mann has been sentenced to 34 years and four months in jail by an Equatorial Guinea court for his role in a 2004 coup
plot."
"Mann has implicated Sir Mark Thatcher, son of UK former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and London-based millionaire Eli Calil as organisers of
the plot."

For those who don't know of this story, Mann was involved in an attempted coup, that looks like it could have links right up into the governments of
the UK, Spain, and South Africa.
To see an interview with Mann, that Channel 4 in the UK had to fight the courts for the right to show (we don't have proper freedom of the press in
the UK), Watch here.

According to that Mann from that interview:
"If they hadn't struck oil here, there wouldn't have been any story. Nobody cared about what went on in this steamy jungle dictatorship, with its
grim human rights record, except those unfortunate enough to live here.
But with the black gold gushing, someone had a better idea about who should run EG Equatorial Guinea. What became known as 'The EG Project'
would place its riches in someone else's hands."
This is a crazy story, Mark Thatcher, the son of ex Prime Minister Margeret was actually convicted for his involvement in this, but got off lightly.
Also implicated at one point was Jeffery Archer, an ex member of parliament, who doesn't really have a clean sheet himself.
It really wouldn't shock me at all to find this was a UK government plan to install puppets there to get the oil.
