What would happen if a 7.9 Quake hit LA now

I thought i would stick this one here as I'm just fishing for opinions on what could happen in a major Quake in a major populated city in the US as San Francisco as an example or LA and the questionable building practices of some countries in Quake prone areas like Turkey and Mexico and China so what would happen if a 7.9 quake hit LA now. with that in mind the last one in LA was 6.6 cant remember the death toll but amazingly it wasn't many the Quake in Australia in 1990 was only 5.5 on the scale killing 12 or 13 people 9 of which were in the one building So what would we be looking at WHEN the big one hits....The Quake that caused the tsunami was a 9.0 on the scale..these are ten of the deadliest in the past 100 years.
