Mexican homicides jump 47 pct.; 1,378 die in '08

(MEXICO CITY) Homicides related to organized crime jumped 47 percent in 2008, Mexico's attorney general said Friday in a rare confirmation of how bad violence has become.

Police later made two gruesome discoveries in northern Mexico. Five bodies — two of them decapitated — were found wrapped in blankets in a city on the border with Texas, along with two heads in sacks. In another state, police found four severed heads in ice chests along a highway.

I'll get straight to the point..

Do you think the escalation in violence will inevitably lead to US intervention? Possibly in the form of cross-border Military offensives?

There's already popular video games on a similar premise:
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter

Taking Mitchell as he commands the fictitious elite Ghost Recon team in an attempt to protect the U.S. and Mexican Presidents, recover stolen U.S. technology, and battle the rebellious Mexican forces. The story unfolds entirely in a realistic and detailed modeling of Mexico City, one of the world's largest cities.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2

The game begins in Ciudad Juárez after the events of the first GRAW, where rebel activity has caused civil unrest throughout Mexico. Despite the death of Carlos Ontiveros in the first game, the insurgency has continued under the leadership of Juan de la Varrera, even spreading into other Latin American states, including Panama, Chile and Ecuador where rebel forces have effectively shut down the Panama Canal. The Ghosts are sent to Mexico by General Keating to investigate claims that the rebels are in possession of a dirty bomb, as well as prevent the rebellion from directly assaulting US soil.

In some of the related threads above, there's discussion of US agencies trying to link Islamic Fundamentalists with Mexican Drug Cartels, whether true or not, its definitely something to chew on as well.
