Letting Iran have nuclear arms "unforgivable": Bush

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - President George W. Bush will tell Israel's parliament on Thursday that letting Iran acquire nuclear weapons would be an "unforgivable betrayal of future generations."

"America stands with you in firmly opposing Iran's nuclear weapons ambitions," Bush will tell Israeli legislators on the second day of his visit to the Jewish state, according to an advance copy of a speech he was due to deliver later in the day.

Bush was in Israel to celebrate the Jewish state's 60th anniversary and try to shore up the faltering Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

In his speech to the Knesset, he planned to hammer home his view that democracy could prevail against extremism in the Middle East, where he has struggled to push his "freedom agenda."

His strongest criticism will be aimed at Iran, Israel's main foe in the region.

"Permitting the world's leading sponsor of terror to possess the world's deadliest weapon would be an unforgivable betrayal of future generations. For the sake of peace, the world must not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon," Bush will say.

Yet again, bush flies in the face of the evidence provided by his own intelligence agencies.

An NIE concluded that Iran has not had a weapons programme since 2003 - bush chose to dismiss it.

The russians are building irans nuclear power plants on condition that all fuel is returned when spent.

Bush chooses to ignore this.

This is getting more like the build up to Iraq every day, when the bush administration stated over 900 times that saddam had wmd's.

He didn't.

Hans blix has said that iran does not have a nuclear weapons programme - the same as the NIE said.

Bush has ignored him.

It seems that bush&co want to be the imperial masters of the mideast, and will attempt to trample on anyone who gets in their way.

Russia and China have very strong ties to Iran - do we really want to take the risk of war with either country?

No, WE don't - but bush doesn't care, and nor do his cohorts.

When the bombs go off, they'll be sitting in their bunkers, working out how they can turn ash into money.

They won't suffer - WE WILL.
