Question about stars

Topic started on 12-4-2008 @ 04:26 PM by Monteriano

I am new to ATS and hope that this is the right place to ask this question. Do all stars exist in galaxies? Are there any stars that are not part of any galaxy? Correct me if I am wrong but all of the individual stars that we see are in the Milky Way galaxy? I know little about space and astronomy but figured that someone here will know a lot about this subject. Thanks in advance for your answer.

Yep you got it right. Stars are normally found in galaxies. There are a few exceptions, recently discovered and very uncommon:

Thanks Nablator! I have always wondered if there were any independent stars out there and why if there were. You pointed me in the right direction. Thanks again for your help.
