Question about QAF (Hebrew letter)

If anyone here happens to be an expert on the Hebrew aleph-beit, I would very much appreciate if you could tell me when (approximately) or - more importantly - WHY did the letter Qaf come to symbolise the "back of the head", among other things.

I mean, yes, it does look like the back of a head - but it also looks like a million other things, so... why the "back of the head", of all things?

I meant QOF - sorry!

I wanted to correct it after I had posted it - but wouldn't you know, in the meantime ATS had turned off editing because of some repair works or something...
