I am not going to defend everything that the Bible says. There are many reasonable people out there (including myself) who have their doubts about
the Bible. That being said, it is difficult to find a single book that has had a more profound effect on Western Civilization that the Bible. Even
if you could successfully argue Isaac Newton's Principia, Adam Smiths On the Wealth of Nations, or some other similar book was more
influential, these books are not as widely accessible to the masses as the Bible.
Granted it is true that some people may answer that the Bible is their favorite book because they feel that is the "correct" answer. Nevertheless,
the Bible is still more widely read than any other book. A large fraction of the US population goes to Church regularly, and while they are at Church
they read the Bible. Church groups also host Bible studies. As popular as Harry Potter is, 80% of the U.S. population does not congregate
once a week to read Harry Potter.
