Archivist's Notes: This is basically a report based on DRV Naval comms wich gives a situation report of DRV Naval Vessels. T142 communicated with Hai Phong that T146 would be towing T136 as it was reported short of fuel/oil.

DVR T142 reported to Haiphong, T146 to Tow T336 due to it being reported low on fuel (oil).

Vessel T333 was also under tow by sea going tug Bach Dang.

Bach Dang was also ordered to transfer 1-5 tons of fuel oil, depending on T336's requirement.

This document is another of several reports of intercepted communications from the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV) during the Gulf of Tonkin Incident, in which the DRV attacked US Naval vessels. This was a damage report after the first incident, of a PT boat that was damaged and low on fuel.

The Gulf of Tonkin Incident prompted the US Congress to pass the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, which gave President Johnson authority to use military force to defend allies in the area and ultimately lead to the beginning of the Vietnam War.
