This is a curious document of intercepted communications of a report of enemy casualties by the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV) after the Gulf of Tonkin Incident. The report stated that on Aug. 2nd, a plane was shot down, but there were no planes involved in the first incident. The report also said that on Aug. 5th, five more planes were shot down. There was an air strike on the DRV PT boats and a fuel depot by the US after the supposed second PT boat attack on US Destroyers. Previous reports from the DRV said that they only shot down two aircraft. One might think this report was an exaggeration, but it sounds to me that it could be an attempt at disinformation if they knew the message would be intercepted. More than likely, this report was disregarded.

Here are more links related to this document. The first one seems to be another report that claims of downed US aircraft during the US air strike.

The Gulf of Tonkin Incident prompted the US Congress to pass the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, which gave President Johnson authority to use military force to defend allies in the area and ultimately lead to the beginning of the Vietnam War.
