That's kinda what I am thinking. As one other ATS poster put it in another thread: When you want your kids not to touch the bananas, tell them not to take the apples.

Something probably showed up on youtube that was a lot more damning than some dude who was going to criticize Pakistan... They probably used that video posted above as the fall guy video, when really it was something totally different...The question is...WHAT?

Eh, I doubt it. You figure Pakistan is on the edge of revolution being led by Islamic fanatics. the government is doing all it can to stay in power and to maintain some kind of stability in the country. It would make sense that they would capitulate to taking down YouTube for Pakistan in order to appease that radical fringe that isn't very fringe anymore. It would be a way for the government to say, "See? We're on the same side here when it really counts."

What's more, even when it blew way out of proportion, the government stuck to its guns until YouTube took down the offending video. I don't think there was some grander conspiracy here, but I do see the potential for some major attacks on internet freedom of expression from other Islamic countries, or Pakistan, based on how easily one of the most popular websites in the world was shut down because it offended someone.

I can almost guarantee you Cisco's lights have been on over night for several nights, though!

This is the promo movie of Geert Wilders that led Pakistan to block Youtube:

Emphasis in the quote is mine. Pakistan blocked YouTube for the entire world until YouTube capitulated to their demands. It wasn't that they realized they blew it and corrected what they did. No, according to the PTA spokesman, they did it after YouTube bent under their demands.

Ummm....that quote was talking about Pakistan...

"We have issued instructions to all Internet service providers [in Pakistan] that YouTube should be unblocked as the specific content has been removed by the website".
How on earth could they issue instructions to all Internet service providers all over the world? Youtube 'came back' for the rest of the world before it came back for Pakistan, because first they fixed the mistake that caused it to inaccessible to the world, then when the videos were removed, they "issued instructions to all Internet service providers" to unblock it (in Pakistan).

i still dont get ho they are able to tell the rest of the world what they are able to watch or see.....

How is that ok? I mean only they had the problem with it only they should of been shut down anything else should be taken as a illegal means of Internet and Private property behavior.

Becuz from what I have gathered in this world., Not everyone is offended by free speach......

Just seems they over steped their bounds when they cut off youtube for everyone an not just their affected area, an since when do we allow radicals to control our information flow?

Whats Next Porn?

Video Games that have a unfavorable additude agaisnt radicals?

Where are the hackers of the world on this one? They have been riding shotgun on the internet for a while now, im sure we will see more problems from them if this action keeps up.

And that's why Pakistan and America are buddies! BFF 4 EVA!

Or something like that. Seriously, if a chump country like Pakistan can do this, anyone can. I think the Internet just took a new turn.

jj, doesn't it seem strange to you that Pakistan, of all places, would even have the ability to shut down youtube worldwide? I mean how in the heck does that even happen? It's one thing for them to be able to limit access to it's own country, but worldwide?
