Using a method first proposed by Einstien called "Gravatational lensing" to produce magnification of up to 25 times naturally the Hubble space telescope in conjunction with the 10 meter Keck observatory have been able to discover the farthest known object in space - 13 billion light years away just 750 million years after the big bang.

"Without the magnification of 25 afforded by the foreground cluster, this early object could simply not have been identified or studied in any detail with presently available telescopes," said astronomer Jean-Paul Kneib, of Caltech and the Observatoire Midi-Pyrenees in France.
