Hey all, I need some help with Firefox. I have a memory leak, so it ends up occasionally using 300+K of memory and killing my system. I've uninstalled it using the Windows uninstaller, AND the Firefox uninstaller, erased the Mozilla folder, and even gone through the registry and removed all references to Mozilla. But everytime I reinstall it, my history and bookmarks are already there, and it has the same problem. This is the first time I've had problems with Firefox, and would appreciate any suggestions on how to get it reinstalled properly.

I found instructions on how to do what is called a "clean reinstall". This site should walk you through the basics of removing your bookmarks, personal data, etc. hopefully that will solve your problem.

clean reinstall

edit to add:

If you need a registry cleaner i would reccomend this it is free and very simple to use. Also make sure that you empty your recyle bin, shut down everything, and then reboot your computer before beginning the reinstall.

This is actually a know issue for firefox.

Here is the workaround that firefox has you do:

1. With Firefox up and running, type about:config (in the URL) and hit enter.
2. Right click on the new page and select New -> Boolean.
3. In the pop-up window, type in “config.trim_on_minimize” without quotes and hit enter.
4. In the next pop-up window, select True and hit enter.
5. Restart your browser

In addition, zap, here are some edits to really improve firefox performance:
1) type about:config(in the URL) and hit enter
2)network.http.max-connections--(value)---60
3)network.http.max-connections-per-server---(value)----60
4)network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy---(value)---60
5)network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server---(value)---60
6)network.http.pipelining-----(value)----True
7)network.http.pipelining.maxrequests-----9value)---60
8)network.http.proxy.pipelining----(value)----true
