memo dated march 1st, from dpt of the air force made out to following acronyms -
ADC AFSC HQCOMD USAF SAC AFCS ATC CAC TAC AFLC AU MAC USAFSS
regarding unverifiable report of persons unknown impersonating air force and norad officers as well as other unnamed defense officials after citizens
had reported seeing ufo's.
they wore civilian clothing as well as official air force uniforms and demanded and then confiscated photographic evidence of the sightings from the
civilians.
one enlisted the help of the local police to round up witnesses in a school hall and told them not to talk about their sightings to anybody and that
they had not seen what they thought they had
concludes by asking all military, civilian and information/ufo investigating officers to report any similar incidents they hear about to their local
OSI offices

This struck me as the right hand not knowing what the left hand was doing. Impersonating the military isn't as easy as it might appear. It takes more
than a uniform and a short haircut. A lot of people then as now, had been in the military themselves, so they would smell out a fake.
It seems to me that a certain group within the military might want to silence witnesses, while the rest wonder what's going on.
