Recruitment firm Westaff, which supplies hundreds of Santas around the country, yesterday confirmed the edict.

Westaff national operations manager Glen Jansz said the company's Santas had been urged to tone down their use of the "ho, ho, ho" phrase.

"The reason behind that is we find that in some cases the little kids can get a little bit scared of the deep 'ho, ho, hos' and we ask them to be mindful of keeping their voices to a lower level," he said.

"And kids are probably more inclined to understand 'ha, ha, ha', than 'ho, ho, ho'."

It states in the above article that the ban was because 'ho ho ho' scares many children, but one news program and the largest national paper have reported it's cause as 'being derogatory towards women'.

Has this world gone mad? Political Correctness is the worst thing to ever happen to tradition. This, and stupid laws like it, should be voted on by the public. The results would be overwhelmingly against these laws that only make things more complicated and ruin any fun for children and adults alike.

That's just great!

Now how about banning JC, because seeing a guy nailed to a big ass wooden cross scares the pants off of me.

And turning water in to wine, well that's just encouraging underage drinking.

And as for the tooth fairy, creeping in to childrens rooms at night: pervert!!

This must be a joke, it has to be.

We had a Santa at work last week for our open house. (I work at a garden center and we have oodles of Christmas decorations and trees)
There were lots of ho-ho-hos.
No one cried and no one thought ill of any woman.
Although many kids of all ages had their pictures taken with the jolly gent from the North Pole.

Such insanity. :shk:

"Potentially any big guy in a red suit with a white beard is scary ....

Something tells me that humans have evolved into something completely different in my lifetime.

Kids can be startled by a lot of things, but if the world is producing a generation of kids that are afraid of big guys in red suits with white beards, we're in a lot of trouble.

Could it have all started with this guy?

Sadly it isn't a joke, but so far it's only in Australia.

Let's just hope it doesn't catch on, eh.

I believe it. In CT we had at least 3 families threatened with legal action and their lawns covered with protesters because their Halloween decorations involved nooses. Apparently the very fact that slip knots exist is racially insensitive. Because no white people have ever been hanged? Then there's that Wiccan couple who got Halloween pulled from local schools. And Chicago announcing it to be from now on know as "Black and Orange" day.

I'm afraid my knuckles would turn concave from punching all of these idiots over and over and over. But then you can't punch sense into anyone. It would make me feel better though.

Freedom of speach is dead.

Public Presure will rain supreme, and if you don't like it, they will public assasinate your charecter.

Make no mistake about it, we are in the end times.

Has this world gone mad?

A big echoing hearty YES.

Seeing as Santa himself is a fabrication of commercialism, it is funny to see that the PC community (another secular group) is now turning against it. Maybe, just maybe we could bring back what Christmas is really about... eggnog.

Perversely, like the Americans cheapening the word 'gay' once in the English Language meaning hapiness, the Australians are cheapening Santa's 'ho' which also implies hapiness. How about people standing up to the PC brigade for once, and keeping the language beautiful, as it seems only happy words get destroyed.

So nice to see the stupidity that is runaway PCness is alive and doing so well...

HO HO HO...yeah that sooo scared me when I was a child, marred me for life...

Nothing more important to worry about, nice to see our cousins in Austrailia, or some of them any way, have all those other social concerns solved to their satisfaction.

It's an exaggeration.

Real Story

Two department stores which employee Westaff-trained Santas moved quickly to reassure parents and kids that their Santas would not be gagged. A spokeswoman for David Jones at the Westfield shopping centre said: "Senior management have assured us that Santas provided to David Jones have not been censored in any way."

A spokesman for Myer, in the same complex, assured: "Myer has not directed our Santas to refrain from using 'ho, ho, ho' and believe the expression is an important Christmas tradition."
...
"We ask our Santas to try techniques such as lowering their tone of voice and using 'ha, ha, ha' to encourage the children to come forward and meet Santa. We wish you and your family a very merry Christmas."

People are way too sensitive these days. I imagine that any sane woman would not be offended by Santa's ho ho ho... at least I am not offended by it.

And furthermore, I was never scared of Santa as a child. If they want to ban something that children are afraid of, ban clowns. Now those scared the crap out of me when I was little. In fact, they scare the crap out of me now.

Ridiculous, like so many other stories I have heard recently.
