Very troubling indeed.
Not unexpected, though. As good as the F-15 is, it's not a young design any more, and the F-15Cs (like the one that broke up over Missouri) are
getting long in the tooth. Given that they're in a combat role (air superiority for the -C, and ground-attack for the -E) that puts heavy stress on
airframes at the best of times, I'd imagine that we're going to see either an increase in accidents or some serious investment in airframe rebuilds.
I refuse to comment on the fact that it takes our current procurement system almost 20 years to get a replacement aircraft in the air.
