would it be better to have cable tv or satellite tv?

Lets assume that about half of America has been nuked but fortunately your area has been spared. Also assume that fuels sources are inadequate for utilities to operate but that you do have backup power.

Which would be more likely to be available?

I know we will have more serious issues to deal with, but i imagine everyone will want to be informed about what is happening everywhere.

I would probably lean towards satellite, as if all USA outlets were shut down, you would still have access to international stations. Any flaws to this thinking?

I would guess a regional event would not effect satalite tv. But for emergency report, just get them old bunny ears out, they will be broadcasting EBS through that I would guess

And a radio will always work.

I'd go with AM or shortwave radio. Preferably the crank type.
