Deadly amoeba lurks in Florida lakes

www.cnn.com

At first people exposed to the amoeba, naegleria fowleri, suffer from flu-like symptoms. Very quickly, in from one to 14 days, the symptoms worsen, Sherin said. "There's a downhill course. Scary indeed. Not only does one have to worry about terrorism and the climate, but now they have to worry about swimming in water that is too warm, lest they be infected with a deadly organism.

I feel for people that have to find out the hard way. Truely scary indeed.

Just saw this during my daily browse. Apparently, this amoeba is causing havoc around the US. Here is a report of some poor person being struck down by the bug after swimming in lake Havasu in AZ.

I hope that this info gets out before next spring break, as if it doesnt I believe that LOTS of innocent civilians will perish.
