I mentioned at some point that I fancied writing a sonnet.

So here y'all go.

Enjoy, and any comments would be gracefully received.

Sonnet To The Grey.

In darkest corners of my mind you dwell
And wait for me to gently drift away.
Some say you a demon straight from hell –
Corrupting, tempting us in your own way.
To turn our hearts away from our own Gods,
And question what we think and how we live,
By way of not-so-gentle little prods,
And other means that some will not forgive.
From signs in crops to sneaky silver discs,
Abducting, mutilating, coring out.
New ways to let us know that you exist,
But just enough to sow the seeds of doubt.
Yet, if a demon you turn out to be,
Tears will run – I did believe in thee.

Meekly I implore you,
Forget not that we adore you.
'Tis not us that core you...
It's the evil lizard kings!

We are the ones who, designing
within fair crops are aligning,
circles and symbols maligning
those scaly lizard things.

We are the goodly Greys
who walk in the rustling maize,
attuned to your earthly leys,
pure friends to all earthlings.

What a fab response!

I absolutely love that. Good work.

I would try to develop a poetic response to that, but I think it just sits perfectly...

I'm glad you like it. A poetic response to a poem is, imho, a lot of fun.

There's always more room for poetic rebuttals, too. (hint
)

Are there any Lizards out there who would enjoy casting a negative response to my goodly kind Greys poem?

How can such cold and silent things be meek?
And shift their deeds onto the reptile race?
Allow me to be fair, see us – you shriek,
At least we have emotion in our face.
But you – manipulative, faceless ones
Proclaiming ‘Beware, evil lizard kings!’
And crushing corn to mimic distant suns,
You know inside you are just evil things.
Content to rape a world of its supplies
There’s nothing ‘goodly’ in your well-laid plan.
Your contactees, whose heads you fill with lies,
Of how you simply want the best for man,
Are taken in by looming oval eyes
Of the manipulators of the skies.

Don't hiss at me, you sibilant slime!
Go back... warm your scales near that distant star
which boiled your eggs in their sickly green shell
and became for your kind such a blistering Hell,
its air now rolling with acrid ashes and grime.

T'was YOU who started this terrible war
shattering our planets and relishing the gore
Eating our children you wailed for more, MORE!!
But we did you justice, we showed you the bar'
Ha Ha... you faltered and then quickly scattered afar

And now here you are, you deceivers and liars,
raking your claws, hoping yet to feed.
Your tattered ships coming forward to fulfil your greed
lusting now for human blood with that undeniable need
which marks you forever to be such an insatiable breed.

Back to your system, still burning and dying,
or meet the bar here, its proof undenying.
You've proven unworthy, again, clamoring for more
while savouring these helpless cattle's bleats
as you gleefully tore out their delicate meats.
Get yourselves gone with your deceit and lying
Or we'll show you exactly what we still have in store.
