Inventors across the country are being asked to find a way to lighten the load U.S. soldiers carry on their backs -- largely due to the high-tech gear that uses batteries -- and the solution will be decided in a $1 million contest.

These kinds of contests are nothing new. But the out come from them I think is always a good thing. Not just for the military but for all aspects of life. DARPA had a contest for robot cars. It took two tries over several years but the requirements were eventually met. So I expect the requirements will be met for the batteries also. And all products that use batteries in time will benefit.
