Former colleague: Thompson worked for abortion rights group

A former law colleague of likely Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson told CNN Monday that Thompson worked in the 1990s for a group trying to loosen abortion restrictions.

In 1991, Barnes was asked by Judy DiSarno, then president of the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association, to suggest someone to help the group persuade the White House rescind a rule prohibiting abortion counseling at federally funded clinics.

Barnes said DiSarno was "only interested in finding a Republican to assist them," so he suggested that she call Thompson

Ouch this has gotta hurt . Well if Fred takes to many hits like this via his own past actions the only candidate left that will appeal to the Republican core supporter base is that fruit cake Newt Gingrich . Stuff like this also shows just how shallow the anti abortion stance that candidates take really is.

Why would trying to rescind a rule that prohibited counseling which may sway the patient into considering another option other then abortion be a bad thing for Thompson? Isn't that what they usually do when they counsel someone in an abortion clinic? They offer them other options like adoption?

ThePieMaN you have bear in mind that the people who Fred is looking to for support aren't exactly always known for logical thought process. For example some of the pro life crowd also oppose condoms being available in US high schools. Things like reality often go by the way side when it comes to elements of the American right.
