Spartan Bioscience Inc. today announced the commercial launch of the Spartan DXTM real-time PCR (polymerase chain reaction) DNA analyzer. The Spartan DXTM provides DNA results in 30 minutes or less for 4 samples at a time. It is available at a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of USD $14,995. Spartan is now accepting orders for shipment during the month of July.

Seems to be a pretty sweet toy, but what on earth could your average Joe do with this?

Maybe if you want to see who snagged the last cookie, but analyzing the DNA on the hair left at the scene.

I am sure that tech sililar to this could become invaluable in the future with regard to catching criminals and figuring out who the culprit is without having to jump through hoops to get results, but for the time being, this just seems like something for the rich to blow their endless supply of cash on.

Any other perspectives are appreciated. Cheers.
