We would actually probably teach them to be exactly like us. They'd lose whatever culture they had or were developing and be assimilated into our space cousins.

Sorry if I misspoke. But that would be under the pretext of humanity achieving routine interstellar travel, and therefore capable of coming to their home worlds. We are like ants to them now. Which is why I believe it's futile to attempt an arms race against them.
