Hey guys. This is just a heads up. Ya'll keep an eye on the sky this weekend. The solar system is going to put on a great show for us.

First - it's the Lyrids Meteor Shower. Earth is moving through the debris field of Comet Thatcher.

Second - a solar wind stream is headed for us. A geomagnetic storm. That means .... NORTHERN LIGHTS.

Anyways, I thought you all might like to keep an eye out. Our weather here in the mid-atlantic is supposed to be clear and warm ... perfect viewing weather. (except for the light pollution from Philadelphia)

FF,

Can we die from this?

I mean, is it over as in doomsday again?

Nah... But I bet it looks pretty. My mother lives in Norway and has "bragged" about this a couple of times... so I'm crossing my fingers for something purdy downhere too ;P

you've got a GREAT shot at seeing the northern lights.

The rest of us have a good chance to see them AND to see the meteor shower as well.

Lunar Impacts

From the OP link;

There's going to be a meteor shower on the Moon, too, but unlike Earth the Moon has no atmosphere to intercept Lyrids. Instead, meteoroids will hit the lunar surface and explode.

I just want to add something here.
If, you want it to rain (and snow a little too) in my hometown.
Just post an interesting astronomical event.
something cool, and unusual. Something I would love to see for myself.
Just post it here, and it will rain, in my hometown.
Needless to say, I saw nothing past our lower atmosphere.
The part that rains. LOL

Kind of a rant..but jeez already.
