Tiny bits of protein extracted from a 68-million-year-old dinosaur bone have given scientists the first genetic proof that the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex is a distant cousin to the modern chicken.

Just amazing. You can read the rest here. Proof of evolution.

I heard this on the radio this morning... Of course, the theory that birds are descendents of dinosaurs has been around for a while. So, I wasn't really shocked when I heard this.

I swear I just broke something laughing! Seriously, this is just ridiculous!

The mighty T-Rex, now.............a bloody chicken.

I'd always wondered, but now I can say it without looking like a loon.

Birds are supposed to have come from bipedal dinosaurs. As for pterodactyls and such, they were reptiles.

I did indeed, I've already promised to eat my hat in another thread and I only have the one hat.

Also, after reading the article a bit more, it does seem rather credible.

I guess we all know who won this race.

Maybe scientists should be working on a real Jurassic Park, I want dibs on a drumstick.

Which came first, the T-REX or the egg?

Why did the T-REX cross the road?

What are you McFly...a T-REX?

Kentucky Fried T-REX...it's pterodactyl licking good!

This is going to be fun!

M.Agenda!

so the stylized drawings of T-Rex with those scrawney arms coming out the chest part might be misplaced...
and a T-Rex with stubby extremities that would become feathered wings
is a more correct depiction....
the world was & is as strange as i imagined as a kid,
but was criticized for, and labeled a daydreamer in school...

let's see if there's a forthcoming change in the dinosaur icons we grew up with...

Just a quick question.

What would cause a T-Rex to have a need to have wings?
I always thought flightless birds evolved from birds of flight.

Nope. They're for real. I've stared at them in the museum.

This was a neat discovery, because we've known for a long time that T Rex bones and chicken/turkey bones are really very similar... hollow and light. Rex was a lot lighter than some of the similar-sized Saurischians she chased down.

IF it happened (it didn't), it would be a case of "convergent evolution." Nature tends to evolve and re-evolve the same structures (like saberteeth. There's been dozens of different species of "sabertoothed cats".)

They did!

LOL.............this makes me think of the movie trailer "meet the robinson's" where shows the end it shows the t-rex www.youtube.com...
but on a serious note.

its hard to compare a t-rex to a chicken, on the simple fact of the whole aviation build.....and..........well size.

but what do i know
