Call to Muslim Nations - Apologize for Slavery

Islamic and Christian historians have called for a number of Muslim states to apologize for their part in the slave trade.

The Ottoman Empire and North African Islamic states raided European countries for slaves, and have yet to apologize or show remorse for these actions. Between 1480 and 1830, one and a quarter million white Europeans and North Americans were raided into slavery in north Africa by the north African states. Military action ended most of the slave trade, at least the part of the slave trade that kidnapped white Euros and North Americans.

** I highly doubt any Islamic nation will show remorse or officially apologize. Slavery is still going on in many of these countries. Africa still has a flourishing slave trade. Africans are still enslaving other Africans. Many Islamic countries still not only allow, but encourage, slavery of non-muslims. The request of these folks to obtain a statement or remorse, or apology, can’t happen while slavery is still going on IMHO.

Madness, I think America has more than apologized for their involvement with slavery. How many times do you want our government to apologize? As a side note, the only remotely Abrahamic religion I have ever seen apologize for anything is Catholicism.

No. Those have been acknowledged for the evils that they were. They have ended hundreds of years ago.

The Barbary pirates kidnapped millions of Euros and North Americans, and stole billions of $$. The Islamic countries have never acknowledged that these things were wrong and they have not stopped slavery. The slave trade is still going on in Muslim Africa and the Middle East.

To make Muslim nations acknowledge their role in this, and to say that it was/is wrong, is one step towards making it end.

However, I don't see the muslim nations acknowledging that they were/are wrong. It is still a part of their culture and many of their religious figures claim it is their allah-given right to take slaves of non-believers.
