WASHINGTON - Army Secretary Francis J. Harvey abruptly stepped down Friday as the Bush administration struggled to cope with the fallout from a scandal over substandard conditions for war-wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

This is horrible that wounded soldiers from Afghanistan and Iraq are having to be submitted to substandard care and facilities upon their return to the US.

I'm glad that this reaction is finally taking place; but the fact that questions arose several months ago and were not addressed is criminal.

Plenty of tax dollars spent on bombs, but not enough on bandages.

What's wrong with this picture?

Newsweek has done a recent article on how the US is dropping the ball on Veterans' care. I'm glad that this is finally getting some media attention; I have been hearing horrible stories for years about the VA and overall Veterans' care from Veterans that I personally know.

I hope some good can come from it; but I am not holding my breath.
