SINGAPORE -- A Singapore pro-democracy activist, Chee Soon Juan, was convicted Monday for trying to leave the country without a permit and fined 4,000 Singapore dollars (more than 2,600 US), he said.
It was the latest conviction against Chee, one of a few in Singapore to have spoken out against the ruling People's Action Party (PAP).
