Clinical trials of HIV prevention gel stopped

Trials of a new gel that was supposed to reduce HIV infection rates were stopped when it appeared that the group recieving the gel actually had a higher rate of infection than the controll group. It is unclear why this was the case. Three other drougs of a similar nature are undergoing trials in Africa and results are expected by 2009.
