(Robotics) Roboboa

Roboboa is described as a dancing robot snake from our friends at
WowWee. It really does dance around, moving most of it's jointed
body to and fro.
It does not appear to offer any sort of real, directed motion, however.

In a nutshell, Roboboa will play lights and music and dance along,
it will wake you up with its alarm clock, it can track motion, appears
to accept an iPod and will obey your commands with a programm-
able remote control.

Another cool robot, wowee seems to be on a spree with
these robots.

I think that this robot will end up being popular, even though
it does'nt have as many capabilites as other robots in this
category do posses.

kinda seems like its a security bot. I wonder, where are all these bots taking us? I just hope these things don't get too smart for our own good. although it is pretty cool looking. although I wonder about the functionality of it. I don't neccessaraly want a dancing epeleptic sezure enducing bot hanging around the house. LOL

Really? I don't see the securityish look myself, though I did think it
looked liked a shower head when I first saw it.

With these robots in particular, the only place they are leading us
is to, well leading the parents I should say, to more debt.


I don't think creating true thinking machines will be a bad thing
unless, we enslave them, or add stupid laws to their programming,
which in my opinion is immoral in the first place.

Thank you for the interesting link Iori, I am more interested in practical robots though.

I think, that practical is a individualistic definitive term, true this
can not say save someone life, or kill a man from 20 yards, but
it is practical to the mother of the 10 year old who will be inthralled
by the robot for enough time for her to relax some.

This looks like a fun little toy I might get about 20 minutes of enjoyment out of, but thats pretty good considering it takes alot to get me excited.

As for the constant comments on machines getting 'too smart' in tech threads, I'm tired of hearing that... seriously. Working in Robotics myself, these IC's are something akin to a network of sewage pipes when compared to intelligence.
There is no way on this earth, any IC combination is going to be able to 'think'. Perhaps one day, through a combination of bio-electrical technologies, we may get thinking machines... but IC's are so basic. Seriously, go to chapters, and pick yourself up a book on Digital Circuits. You will see how mundane suggestions of 'smart machines' are.
They can only do exactly what they were built to do, that, and break down.
Sorry, I don't mean to sound like I'm getting at anyone, but it's a pet peeve of mine.
