Yep. Chavez, the best bud of Castro, has spoken. He says Venezuela will have 'socialism or death'. God help the people of Venezuela. They are being railroaded into communism.

just because somebody says "X or death" doesn't mean he's going to violently or oppressively enforce X

it could just be similar to the famous phrase "give me liberty or give me death"

if the PEOPLE have no problem with socialism, shouldn't they be allowed to have it?

isn't the USA supposed to be the champion of self-determination?

If the people want it, it's because they don't know any better. If the reports from (government controlled) media in Venezuela say that the people want it ... I don't believe it anyways.

I didn't say anything about forcing them not to be communist .. I was just lamenting their push in that direction. It's NOT a good life and socialism has failed (and is failing) around the world.

I can pity them their fate. And I foresee a major headache with Chavez in Venezuela for America. He's a whack on an ego trip and there is no one to stop him.

i think you have your facts wrong, he died at age 63 (in 1799...)
and people say the current crop of students isn't learning enough about american history...

no, communism is failing
socialism hasn't been implemented
socialism is purely a more state based economic system
socialism does not equal a form of government
merely a philosophy on economics

well, the people put him back into power
he doesn't have quite the amount of control that the american media would like you to believe, so don't pull the fixed elections card out
he has popular support
if they use a different economic system, so be it
