Arturo Gatti went through a self-evaluation process after each of his pain-filled battles against Micky Ward. The first question: How much punishment
can one human take? After the swelling had subsided and his ears had stopped ringing he would ask himself if he had learned anything.
After 30 rounds and two pyrrhic victories, Gatti learned that he didn't need to eat so many punches to have his hand raised in victory, and he never
wanted to see Ward standing across the ring from him again.
