Controversial Polish heavyweight Andrew Golota is coming to Britain in an attempt to resurrect his career.

Golota has signed a contract with the Fight Academy team run by Jim Evans and Robert Waterman and is set to make his debut in this country next month.

The 35-year-old had his first fight for three years two weeks ago when he stopped journeyman Brian Nix in seven rounds in front of a sell-out crowd in Delaware.

Waterman said: "Andrew has still got a lot of ambition and he thinks he has sorted his head out - but he wants to get out of America and leave his demons behind him."

Golota earned notoriety for two low-blow assaults on Riddick Bowe in 1996 which earned the Pole - who was clearly winning both fights at the time - disqualification.

His mental fragility was apparent again a year later when he crashed to first round defeat against Lennox Lewis, and when he refused to contest the third round against Mike Tyson in 2000.

Golota will be trained by the former world heavyweight champion Tim Witherspoon, who befriended Golota after losing their fight in Poland in 1998.
